The college was ‘the mother of colleges in Patna University’, as it gave birth to Patna Law College, Bihar College of Engineering (Now NIT), Patna Science College, Patna Training College and Prince of Wales Medical College (Now PMCH).
As J N Sarkar and J C Jha recorded in their work, “A History of the Patna College”, six students appeared in the (first) BA examination. Two students, K C Bannerji and S C Bannerji, passed in the first division, two failed due to poor marks in English and Mathematics, and one did not continue the examination due to illness.
In 1937-38, H R Batheja, the principal of the college, could proudly exclaim, “Patna College is the Oxford of Bihar with no Cambridge to compete with”. J K Rogers was the only ‘Professor’ among the early teaching staff, who taught several subjects like English literature, British history, mathematics and mental philosophy. The first Indian to be appointed as the ‘Professor’, as distinct from ‘Master’, was Nobin Chunder De.
